Hi everyone. This is an exciting announcement for nonprofits and funders interested in building the practice of listening to the people you seek to help. If you are a Packard Foundation grantee who is interested in this support, please get in touch with your program officer soon!
What is Listen for Good?
Listen for Good (L4G) explores a simple but systematic and rigorous way of collecting feedback from the people we seek to help, as well as to help nonprofit organizations, across issue areas, populations served, geographies, and budget levels, to build the practice of high-quality feedback loops with those they serve. Organizations implementing L4G are all customer-facing nonprofits that use a semi-standard survey tool to solicit feedback from their ultimate beneficiaries. L4G is structured as a multi-sector partnership between Fund for Shared Insight; SurveyMonkey – a private company with a scaled survey platform; co-funders; and U.S.-based nonprofit organizations. In 2016, we made 46 L4G grants supported by 28 nominating co-funders. In a survey of Listen for Good participants to date, a majority of agency leaders say they are finding actionable data for their organizations to improve services for their constituents.
Listen for Good 2017 grants
Fund for Shared Insight (Shared Insight) will be offering up to 75 L4G grants in 2017. In order to engage more funders in supporting beneficiary feedback efforts and using the data to inform their work, L4G is structured as a co-funding engagement.
To participate in L4G, a nonprofit must be nominated by a current funder (existing or new). If the nonprofit(s) a funder nominates is selected to participate in L4G, the nominating funder will contribute $15,000 of the $45,000 grant total for each nonprofit selected. (Grantees will receive a grant of $45,000 over two years: $30,000 paid the first year and $15,000 the second year.)
Shared Insight will accept proposals from funder-nominated nonprofits until Friday, May 26, 2017 at 11:59pm Pacific Time.
Who is organizing Listen for Good?
Listen for Good is organized by Fund for Shared Insight, a funder collaborative that pools financial and other resources to make grants to improve philanthropy. American foundations spend billions of dollars each year to solve society’s toughest challenges, yet many do not have accessible tools to gather and analyze feedback from the people they seek to help. Shared Insight supports foundations and nonprofits seeking to embrace and adopt feedback loops and share honest insights so their collective efforts have a greater impact on people’s lives. We believe that this will make foundations and nonprofits more effective and accelerate efforts to solve our society’s greatest challenges.
Core funders of Shared Insight include the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, The JPB Foundation, Liquidnet, the Rita Allen Foundation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
